DYES HEATFIX INSTRUCTIONS
HEATFIX: This range gives excellent wash fast colour.
Instructions and use of the Heatfix Dye HEATFIX DYES: These dyes are easy to use on silk, wool and other animal based fibres - and these are some effective methods that will ensure successful dyeing. 1.Paint it on: Mix your dye with white vinegar, and nice rainwater if you want a soft diluted shade. Apply the colour to the silk neat with your brush. If you have no rainwater and your local water is hard, it may help to add water softener. Allow the painting to dry and cure for about six hours. Fix the dye. To fix the dye you need heat. 1st method: A painted piece can be laid out on a warm electric blanket and left for 3 hours. 2nd method: If you have hot sun, put your painting under some black plastic on a table in the hot sun for 3 hours. 3rd method. You can iron the silk under tissue to fix the dye 4th method: Put the silk into a pillow case, sew it in so it stays inside, and put it into a hot tumble dryer for one hour. Rinse. – Clear water wash the item carefully in a bucket. 2. Immerse dyes and silk in water method: 1st method: Stainless or enamel pots are the only pots to use for this method, and not to be used for food again dye into water, thspn 1 tbsp white vinegar and leave just under simmer temperature with the article to be dyed article for 10 minutes. Turn off heat and leave the item in the water until water is cool. The water should be clear. Rinse. 2nd method- microwave. Mix water, 1 tbspn vinegar and dye into an icecream container. For example, if you are dyeing tissue silk, you need about 10 mls of dye for 2 mtr of tissue. Immerse the tissue silk, and put it into the microwave cook for 10 minutes – it must be wet or it will burn. Leave overnight and the water will be clear. Rinse. Please note, if you want to get totally even dyeing, you must use a large pot, plenty of water and presoak the silk then carefully stir whilst the dyeing is taking place.
