Workshop description:

On day one, a simple nuno scarf will be made, using various undyed silk, prefelt and superfine merino wool. At 3pm, you will then take your scarf, and wrap the scarf using various plant materials. These will then be heated, and left overnight to cure. Participants return the next day - Wednesday at MIDDAY, when all bundles will have cooled and cured, to unwrap and discover what has happened in the plant dye process.

Lindy's artist profile:

I have been handmaking felt garments for the past 13 years. Being self taught initially until I discovered Feltwest Inc. which opened up a whole new world of feltmaking. I have attended workshops and been inspired by overseas tutors, Charlotte Buch (Denmark), Jorie Johnson (USA/Japan), Chad Alice Hagen (USA).

Inspirations for my designs come from nature and our multicultural and indigenous society. Most of my work is using 'Nuno' technique. 'Nuno' is a Japanese word for fabric. I incorporate vintage kimono pieces and antique scarves in my work. My work is always evolving. In the past four years I have been exploring hand-dyeing naturally, using Fungi and WA Native flora. Looking for local windfall, or verge clippings to use in my work. Its very exiciting when a length of silk is unwrapped with Eucalyptus leaves and flowers inside, never knowing how the leaves will react with the natural mordants. I insist upon using natural fibres, wool, silk, cotton, hemp. I am fascinated by the versatility and wearability of felt. The natural fibre keeping your body cool or warm, as needed. My designs are unique, one of pieces, no two pieces are the same.

I have taught feltmaking in my studio and at schools throughout the metropolitan area. I tutored' Felting for Wearable Surfaces' in 2009 at the TAFTA Geelong Fibre Forum, a live in workshop, for a week.
