Donna Campbell: Mud mud glorious mud, and weave, and dream...

Donna has lots to share with us....she will show us in presentation, tradiitional mud dyeing.

Learn more about cultural sensitivities associated with resource use in this fascinating lecture and workshop. Maori weavers utilise their mud resources to obtain colour on fibre, creating wonderful contrasts and nuances in the work. Donna will explain her feelings about being in different country, and show us in her presentation how she uses her local muds. She will also touch on the reasons she will only use Australian mud resources when she has made contact with local people who are from this country. Her workshop with then proceed to you and other participants creating a woven vessel from flax a vessel to put your dreams, hopes and desires for the future within.

Donna is a lecturer in Maori Creative Practice at the School of Maori and Pacific Development at the University of Waikato. She is a passionate practitioner in the field of raranga (weaving) creating sculptural garments for the body. Donna has worked on many community projects and continues to align with projects that interweave artists and practitioners. She is a passionate advocate of the fibre arts as contemporary expression and continues to extend the current discourse of fibre arts practice in Aotearoa (New Zealand). Current projects include still/moving image fusion with performance aspects of costume and constructed identity.
