Asa Wahlquist Yarns, dyeing and Traditional knitting patterns.

July 2nd & 3rd, Monday and Tuesday $265.00 Booking code NDSAW01

Asa Wahlquist:

The first day of this workshop will be spent dyeing skeins of wool with plant material. While the dye pot is bubbling, participants will begin small knitting projects with naturally-dyed wool. The workshop will dye a range of colours. Asa will teach participants how to knit intarsia, or patterns with blocks of different colours, and how to knit fair isle. She will teach participants how to design their own patterns, and how to read fair isle patterns. Participants will need to have very basic knitting skills: how to cast on, how to knit and purl and most importantly, how to count.

leafy pattern baby blanket,

She mostly knits baby blankets, which she loves doing because she can concentrate on patterns. On day 2 of this workshop Asa will review the dry yarns of the previous day, make a new batch of dyes and set you in the direction of seperating the colours into batches, for knitting up designs.

Artisans Profile:

Asa Wahlquist has been dyeing wool with plants, and knitting with naturally-dyed wool, for over 40 years. She also writes about dyeing wool and silk fabric with plant dyes. She only uses naturally coloured and naturally dyed wools, and designs all her own patterns. She loves designing patterns for baby blankets, which enables her to concentrate on colour and pattern.

She has also won awards for fair isle and intarsia knitting at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
